I've got a Tahoe 222 with a cracked Mercruiser 5.0, and I'm swapping in a 5.7. The engine's tucked under the cover, and im stuck figuring out how to get it out. Ive got a tractor with a forklift and a hoist in an old barn, but the front lift eye is nearly flush with the opening. Any advice?

Try hooking a short strap or chain to the front lift point and use a flat bar to help pull straight up. If it's still too tight, removing the outdrive first might give you more space. hope this helps!

Appreciate that. I hadn't thought of using a flat bar to get a straighter pull, might actually be the key. As for the outdrive, do you mean just removing it for clearance, or does it help reduce stress on the engine mounts during the lift too?
